Class Descriptions and Times

Pre-Nursery Classes
2 years old by December 1st.
Monday and Friday 9:15-11:15 a.m.

This class is designed to aid the children in separation. It makes the transition easier into the three-year old program and the longer day.  In addition, the Pre-Nursery class also helps with following simple directions and interacting with their teachers and peers.  It is also equally important that they become more independent, self-confident and enjoy their first school experience in a safe-fun environment. This class increases a half hour in length after the start of the new year.

Three-Year-Old Class
Tuesday-Thursday 9:00-11:30 a.m. or 12:00-2:30 p.m.
Monday through Friday (full week) 9:00-11:30 a.m.
Monday-Wednesday-Friday 9:00-11:30 a.m.

In this class the emphasis is given on sharing, socializing and The Golden Rules. There is more structure in this class than the Pre-Nursery. The class will begin to recognize the letters in both their first and last name. Each week the class focuses on a different number and/or letter. Every month the emphasis will be on a different color. Themes include seasons, religion, holidays and many more. Arts and crafts projects correlate with the monthly themes. Circle time slowly increases to about 15 minutes by the end of the year. During this time children are engaged, sitting, and listening to teacher directed activities. These activities include the Pledge of Allegiance, months of the year, and days of the week. The children will count the days of the month, go over the color of the month and the designated letter and sound of the week. They will discuss the weather of the day and dress the weather bear each day.  A book will be read and they will answer teacher directed questions about the book. Singing is a big part of the day along with listening and movement activities. Free-play and cleanup time are an integral part of the learning process. The three-year-old class prepares the children for our Pre-K program.

Four’s/Pre-Kindergarten
Monday through Friday (full week) 9:00-11:30 a.m.
Monday through Thursday 9:00-11:30 a.m.
Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday 9:00-11:30 a.m.

Kindergarten Readiness: Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Socialization and independence are stressed in the four-year-old rooms. Letters and letter sounds are the focus of the four-year-old program along with numbers, religious themes, and thematic units such as seasons, holidays, hibernation, dinosaurs and author studies to name a few.  We practice and put on a beautiful Christmas pageant as well as a graduation celebration.  There is free-play every day as well as projects done in large and small groups.  Working on manners, waiting patiently and raising their hands is stressed. The classes will take several field trips throughout the year including visiting the farm, a ride on the bus and a family picnic.  When conflict arises, the children are encouraged to problem solve on their own with little to no help from the adult. The teacher takes the perspective of an on-looker. By the end year, the children are more than ready for their Kindergarten experience to begin.
